Description
The vehicle gateway (GTW) receives an unrecognized controller area network (CAN) message from another electronic control unit (ECU). May be caused by another ECU running a software version incompatible with the version installed on the GTW, a software bug, or external equipment installed onto a CAN bus.
Potential Impact
CAN communication between ECUs, and between the GTW and other ECUs, may be limited or unavailable.
Set Condition
The GTW receives an unrecognized CAN message from another ECU.
Clear Condition
The GTW no longer receives any unrecognized CAN messages from another ECU. May occur after a successful vehicle software update, if the unexpected message resulted from incompatible software version running on another ECU or a software bug. Otherwise, may require identifying and removing external equipment from a CAN bus.
