Tesla adds the Model Y Standard to its Canadian lineup and debuts the Model Y Standard Long Range across Europe.
Last week, Tesla rolled out updates across two continents, expanding availability of the budget-friendly Model Y Standard to additional markets. In Canada, the Model Y Standard is now tariff-free, improving affordability and making the entry-level crossover more accessible to buyers.

A strategic Canadian launch at $49,990 CAD
Tesla has introduced the Model Y Standard in Canada with a starting price of $49,990 CAD — a key pricing threshold. At that level it’s roughly $15,000 less than the Model Y Premium AWD, about $3,000 cheaper than the Ford Mustang Mach-E base model, and about $1,000 more than the Kia EV6 base model. Because some competitors’ base trims omit several features, the Standard Model Y is positioned attractively on value.
To avoid the 100% surcharge on Chinese-made EVs and potential cross-border complications with U.S. imports, Tesla is shipping Canadian Model Y Standard units from Giga Berlin. Sourcing from Germany allows the vehicle to qualify for provincial incentives, strengthening its competitive positioning in Canada.
What’s different in the Model Y Standard
The Model Y Standard is Tesla’s new entry-level trim and adopts a simplified feature set compared with Premium models. Key changes include:
- Fabric seats (no ventilated options)
- 7-speaker audio system
- Manual steering column adjustment
- No rear-seat screen or ambient interior lighting
- No direct TPMS sensor readout
- No Autopilot (only Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, TACC)
- Simplified acoustic glass
Note: like the European Model Y Standard, this Berlin-built version does not include Autopilot.
Standard Long Range in Europe: maximum range with fewer frills
In Europe, Tesla is applying the Standard trim philosophy to prioritize range. The Model Y Standard Long Range combines the larger battery from the Premium variant with the lighter, simplified Standard equipment. By removing some premium interior components and the front motor to create a rear-wheel-drive layout, Tesla claims a WLTP range of 657 km (approximately 400 miles EPA).
Pricing for this trim is positioned 1% to 10% below the Premium Long Range RWD, depending on the country and currency, offering a middle ground for buyers who prioritize maximum range over premium interior features.
Marine Blue arrives in Canada
Marine Blue, introduced in Europe in October 2025, is now available for Canadian Model Ys because the Canadian vehicles are sourced from Giga Berlin. Marine Blue replaces Deep Blue Metallic and is offered at the same $1,300 CAD option price. This paint choice is limited to Premium and Performance trims and is not available on the Model Y Standard.
